As a result of the December 17, 2010 tax law changes, the Internal Revenue Service announced on December 23, 2010 that the upcoming tax season will start on time for most people, but taxpayers affected by three recently reinstated deductions need to wait until mid-to-late February to file their individual tax returns.
Taxpayers will need to wait to file if they file any of the following forms:
- Schedule A (Itemized Deductions)
- Form 8917 (Higher Education Tuition and Fees Deduction)
- Educator Expense Deduction: Form 1040, Line 23 or Form 1040A, Line 16
People claiming any of these three items will need to wait to file their tax returns until tax processing systems are ready, which the IRS estimates will be in mid-to-late February.
